This is a personal amplification of Ephesians 6:10-20. The bold text verses from the New International Version (NIV). The following plain text is my understanding of Paul’s words.
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
After all of that.. this is what results.. this is your reality.. have faith in the character of God, you have seen Him in creation, you have seen the Messiah, you have witnessed His miracles over nature, the human body and life itself and you can now be confident that you are empowered by this, through the Spirit.
11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
Take into your possession all of the power and protection provided by the armor of God that has been given to you through Christ Jesus; so when the time comes you are able to confidently encounter the plans and schemes of the devil, knowing that victory is yours, in Christ Jesus.
12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Your must realize as I do that the constant trials of life that we encounter most days of our lives is not as a result of people, rather war is being waged against us by the evil one who guides all fallen angels in this world, this very world where the light of Christ is inhibited from being seen clearly. And we wage war, spiritual war, with the force of evil that fights for power in the realms outside of this earth.
13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
Because of this, you must take into your possession all of the power and protection provided by the armor that God has given to you through Christ Jesus; so when the time comes that you face evil, you will be empowered, through Christ Jesus to be who you are, a follower of His, and at the end of it all, at the end of the fight, then you will continue to follow Christ in victory.
14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,
Confidently guard your position and your faith with the belt of truth tightly around your waist, holding you garment in its place so that you may move freely in the battle, and the breast place of righteousness protecting your body, your life, your soul,
15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
Hold your place, steady on the foundation that is the good news, that Jesus Himself is the giver of peace, and on this reality you live and breathe and work and fight. Fight in peace. Live in peace. Be ready to fight. Always live. Let the gospel of peace be your legacy, your impact, the impression you leave, even as you fight.
16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
That’s not the end of it. There is even more. Take hold of the shield that God gives you to protect you. This shield is your faith in Jesus Christ who is our hope. This faith protects us from all of the attacks that the evil one makes.
17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Arm yourself also with the helmet that protects your mind. This is the reality of salvation. This is the truth that you are saved. And also take hold and lift high the sword that is given to you. This sword is an action of the Holy Spirit. It is the word of God. Scripture. Divine. Power. Truth.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
Once you have your gear and are standing firm you should pray. Pray not on your own, but in the power given to you by Jesus with the Holy Spirit by your side. Pray at all times and for all things. All types of prayers and petitions before God. Knowing that you can pray anyway and anytime, be aware of what is going on around you in both the physical and heavenly realms. Keep on praying for your brothers and sisters to have faith in Jesus Christ.
19 Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel,
While you are praying, offer a prayer for me. Pray specifically that whenever I begin to speak, that the words are not my own, but they are of the Spirit of God. If I know that my words are of God and not my own thinking, I will speak with great courage in persuading people to understand and accept the mystery of the gospel, which is the good news that Jesus’ perfect life is credited to me and to you, and that we are righteous heirs to the throne of God, just as He is,
20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
And it is because of this Gospel that I am in chains, and yet I still represent Christ as he desires. Again, pray that I will act courageously, that I will declare the truth of the Gospel just as I am commanded to do and I obediently desire to do.
